crafting HAS LONG BEEN A PASSION OF MINE...
...since growing up in a creative family, surrounded by my Mother (knitter and crochet Queen of her day), Father (aeronautical engineer, woodworker and painter), and Great Aunt (inspirational knitter). My enthusiasm for crafting has continued to grow, and I have taught myself how to fuse glass using a kiln, copper foiling, soldering items to emulate leaded stained glass, all using recycled glass and materials where possible. Then there's the pyrographical work (which is my latest passion). Take a look at My Projects to see what I've been busy making.
Outdoor Workshop
A few years ago I transformed my garage in to my workshop. This is where I do all of my glass cutting, soldering, fusing and kiln work.
House Workshop
With a table in my front room, I rely on a hot coffee, birds in the garden and the morning sunlight for inspiration for encaustic wax painting, decoupaging and pyrography.
Projects
Summer: When it's warm I tend to focus on my glass work in my Outdoor Workshop, where I upcycle glass, using special moulds and the kiln to create bowls, bird plaques and hearts (among other things).
Winter: When it's chilly I move my creative focus inside to the House Workshop to knit (hats, socks, cardigans, gloves, brooches, hair pieces and bow ties), paint using encaustic wax, decoupage and paint using pyrography (wood burning), which all keep my hands warm and cosy.
Gloucester Arts and Crafts Summer School
My love of crafts has also led me to organising and chairing the fabulous Gloucester Arts and Crafts Summer School. This is an annual event where you can study arts and craft courses for one day, two days or all week! You'll learn new skills and hone your existing talents with some of the UK's leading artists and crafters guiding you every step of the way. Next Summer School: July 2015 so keep an eye on the website for more information and to sign up for the courses when they become available.
